I sold a few items recently, all great condition and all in superb working order. I sent via Royal Mail 1st Class Recorded Delivery. here is the result of sending an item via this service. The radio was bubble wrapped, cushioned with plastic bags, boxed, another layer of bubble wrap and then wrapped in parcel paper and secured with quality tape. I’d advise anyone using any Royal Mail postal service to think twice before sending anything fragile in the post. This radio is a sturdy unit and must have been thrown, kicked, shot from a cannon and ran over by a tank to be damaged like this. The screen is cracked, the tone knobs are bent and there are loose components inside the radio. These are the pictures the buyer sent me. I will be contacting Royal Mail and complaining as it’s totally unacceptable, especially for the price we pay to use the service. I will keep you updated.

Ranger RCI69FFB4 400 + Watts Modulation SSB 10 Meter Radio Welcome to the most powerful radio available, the Ranger RCI 69FFB4. Boasting over 400 watts PeP, this puts everything else to shame in terms of sheer performance. Twice the power output of the Galaxy DX98VHP and almost 4 times as powerful as the Connex 3600 and Stryker SR497, if you want to be heard – this is it! It’s certainly no toy and can easily out-perform many top end amateur radios. The downside is the price. at almost £600 it’s the same money as a good condition second hand big boys Ham set up. Have you used one of these or own one? please post your opinion of it below. 4/5 based on 3 Reviews by: Ranger 400+ Watts PeP Power Output – The Most Powerful 10 Meter Radio Available Single Sideband SSB (USB/LSB) Modes Echo and Talkback Frequency Counter Variable RF Power Export Version Available
I bought this Grant Mk1 the other day of a buddy, It is fully worjking and the PCB is in decent condition, Its had some work but no ‘ Lifted tracks’ i hate lifted tracks, were someone uses a to higher wattage iron for soldering or they keep the iron on the track to long burning the resin that holds the copper down and the track lifts…. So no lifted tracks.. The PCB is dirty, Looks like the Final transistor ( 2sc2313 ) has been replaced same for the Driver ( 2sc2166)…. This radio originally would have had twin finals.. a pair of 2sc2312’s in it, And capable of a easy 25 watts on SSB… so one has been removed.. for whatever reason and the circuitry altered to make the single 2312 run properly.. I may put it back to dual finals, But as i intend to run a amp anyway its not really a problem.. The radio has been moded for the UK 40 on a eprom.. And not a bad job, Its neat enough…. Although its on a seperate push button and not on the band switch… I may re-mod it so the radio covers the four bands on the band switch.. and put the push button back to standard… It also has the 10 khz up-shift ( Alphas ) fitted … This is done by jumping a pin on the Binary adder ( 4008)…. My other mods planed are a Superstar counter … Put a course tune and keep the fine as it is, Same as the one on the Cobra 148..So i can get the Zero’s…. Ive also a small vogad chip here and im toying with fitting it inside the grant.. The vogad chip is a Speech proccessor… Im also looking to add fully variable power opn all modes.. But i may just put it on a push switch.. say 5 and 10 watts..to reduce the drive to my amp when mobile.. The front is the main reason of this posting, Its bare….. No paint and no lettering, I was thinking of doing it black, Ive a few black knobs for Presidents here.. but no channel selector knob in black…… So this has made me put the black on hold for now.. Its got the original chrome knobs and there in decent enough condition so Im thinking Silver, The original colour is proberbly the best […]
I’ve always been keen on making aerials and such, mainly wire contraptions and must have dozens of dipoles, vertical offerings and random wires in various states of use and non use scattered about the house here. One thing I hadn’t tried, until recently, was a loop antenna so decided to give it a go in the good old ‘sling it up where you can’ fashion. I didn’t have enough fishing poles to use so instead opted to just lay it on and over the house roof to see if it would be anyways useful. It is basically about 50 odd metres of galvanised electric fence wire (similar to bicycle brake wire)- around the roof, through the window frame, straight into a 4:1 unun and a two foot patch lead into the radio. The ATU in the radio handles the rest pretty much. This is about the peak of my Microsoft Paint skills but it gives an idea of the layout. I thought initially that it might tune 40 metres and up only given it’s physical size but the ATU in the radio seems to like it and tunes on 80m and top band too. I shudder to think how much strain is on it though and only use it down to 40m. Maybe I worry too much? I would love to know what the radiation pattern looks like! The bonus of the roofloop is that it is almost invisible unless the sun happens to be at right angles to it so it fits the bill as a stealth antenna which is good. Results are pretty good bearing in mind the simplicity and the less than ideal setting of the thing. I’ve managed to bag a chunk of Europe and into Asiatic Russia since it went up. I mainly work QRP and rarely go above 20w unless I’m hungry. I occasionally put the WSPRLite through it too and have been spotted regularly in France, Germany, Hungary, Southern Italy and Scandinavia etc on 20m firing just 100mW. A measly tenth of a Watt!! It is quite noisy on 160 and 80 but the noise is about 2 s-points down on 40m compared to a dipole. This improves further on the higher bands. My next tweak might be to elevate it a few inches above the slates along the bottom at both sides to see what effect it has. This will raise the whole […]
And yep it’s a Nanfone! Fiasco of the Midland Mini still fresh in the minds of those that bought it and it was inferior comes another Nanfone!! Thank you Thank you Helmut for your kindness to let me know about and let’s hope it is more reliable than the first radio from Nanfone. Cost will be around €139.95 And the original below: Midland were not interested in customer feedback around the Midland Mini. I’ve 3 Midland Mini complete with Bluetooth accessories. They offered return the microphone and adapter! But the radio that was a BETA tester radio nothing. It’ll take someone brave to try this radio after the failure of the Midland M Mini BETA Edition. Once more my sincere thanks to Helmut B. Here we go again, have had confirmation for the booking, the next CT meeting is go go go, same place same time, near enough. Of course Andy is in on it again, couldnt do it without him – wonder what he`ll have for us to play with this time? Thursday 20th – Sunday 23rd July 2017 The planned Antenna set up for Buxton is going to be a 5 element Yagi on the tower, set at 10 mtr will give perfect take off for Europe. if there is any Long DX coming in, we can raise the tower to about 20 mtrs and this will give a low Angle take off. If 11 mtr is a bit flat and drops off during the late afternoon I will drop the tower and put up a Moxon for 40 mtr DX into the night. For those that have not experienced the Ham bands before, do not panick, it is just like 11 mtr, will get you some Long DX contacts. Cant guarantee how the nights pan out, should get 5k miles contacts. Gear to be used, same as last year, TS 590, Mic or Headset with Foot switch, Acom Amp, Laptop Logging, some video recordings for you tube. Mighty fine comfy Plastic chair to stop you hogging the Radio for too long,LOL. I am sure you will all have fun with beer and BBQ into the evening as well. Lets hope that the weather is going to be kind to us. If there are any CW addicts coming, please operate the radio with both hands in ya pockets, LOL The Moxon is tuned for CW as well. but you will have to bring your own Key.
